Fractional Notes
When the state wasn't able to cut coins it printed these small notes calling fractional notes. This happened four times in Greece 1917-1925, 1940-1941, 1944-1945 and early 1950's. There was also a case in late of 19th century but those notes were issued by private banks. In all other cases we can see that the issued authority is the Kingdom of Greece, "Βασίλειον της Ελλάδος". In the 1941 fractional notes the authority isn't the kingdom but the Greek state because in that year the Germans occupied Greece and the King left from Greece. ![]() |
